You can get up to $4,536 back at tax time if you are eligible and file for the Earned
Income Credit!
Pine Tree Legal Assistance
is a partner in the free I-CAN™ E-File project.
If your total household income is less than $50,000 and you don't itemize your
deductions, I-CAN!™ E-File may be all you need. You can use I-CAN™ to prepare
your tax returns on-line, and if you choose, to file them electronically.
Taxpayers who file electronically usually get their tax refunds much faster than those
who mail in tax returns. If you use e-filing and direct deposit, you will receive your
refund within 10 to 14 days without paying any fees.
The I-CAN program will tell you if you aren't eligible for the EIC but here are
some of the basic requirements.
In order to qualify to use I-CAN! E-File, you (and your spouse if filing together) must:
- Have made less than $50,000 this past year
- Have Social Security Numbers (SSN) or Individual Taxpayer Identification Numbers (ITIN)
that allow you to work in the U.S.
If you do not qualify for I-CAN!
E-File but you have a low income, call a
Volunteer Income Taxpayer Assistance (VITA) program near you for free help at 800-829-1040.

The I-CAN was very easy to use, much more so than [other commercial] software."
